The Long Road: Book One ~ The Long Road

Chapter Thirty~Two

Back in the present...

The owner said something to the DJ then got up on the stage and grabbed the microphone. "Everyone please, quiet down. I have a very important announcement to make." He nodded towards the DJ, who started to play a song. Kyle groaned and hid his face as he recognized the title track from his second CD.

"Let's see a show of hands. How many of you guys have this CD?" Practically everyone in the audience raised their hand, including Jay. "Well, guess what? The guy who's singing this song, Kyle Matthews, is here with us tonight and you just got to hear him perform live on our stage!!!!!"

A stunned hush descended upon the nightclub followed by such a noise that Kyle was sure would drown out Honolulu Airport at its busiest. The owner approached them, noting their embarrassment. "We are deeply honored to have you here. Kyle, Jay, anything you want tonight is on the house!"

"Thank you, but that's not necessary."

"Oh, but it is. Thank you for coming to my club. It is a very great honor for me. Your songs are extremely popular and are constantly being requested. I hesitate to ask this, but would you be willing to have an autographing session for our patrons?"

"I wish I could, but it would be a violation of my contract with AMS."

"Damn! I was afraid of that." He thought for a moment. "But what if someone who just happened to recognize you approached you and asked for your autograph? Would that be a violation?"

"No only a publicized autographing session."

"Publicized how?"

"Print or broadcast media."

"Would you be willing to autograph your CD's for me?"

"Of course, I'd be happy to."

"What about for some of our regular patrons?"

"I'll be right back." He ran off.

"I'm sorry Jay. I had no idea this would happen."

"Don't worry about it. I'm very proud of you and am happy that you're finally getting the recognition your musical gift deserves."

"Are you sure? Once someone sees me autograph the owner's CD's, I'm liable to get mobbed."

"Well, it's a good thing I'm an FBI Agent. I can handle the crowd control." He said, grinning devilishly.

Kyle hugged him. "I love you so much. I'm the luckiest man in the world."

"Second only to me, Kyle, second only to me."

The owner returned and handed Kyle four CD's, two copies of each one. "This set belongs to the club and these are my personal copies. I can't tell you how much this means to me, Kyle, to have you and Jayson here with us, tonight. I'll never forget this night, that's for sure!"

Kyle signed his name on the club copies. "Whom do I make this out to?"

"I'm sorry. I should have introduced myself. I'm Tony. Tony Malikonahs. I'm the owner."

"To Tony, with thanks for a great evening in your club. I wish you much success with the club. Love and peace, Kyle Matthews" Kyle wrote on the CDs. Noticing a tear in Tony's eyes Kyle gave him a hug, then handed over the CDs.

Suddenly, half of the patrons rushed out the door, leaving Tony looking puzzled. "Kyle, I think we better sneak you and Jay out the back door. I have a feeling you are about to get mobbed for autographs."

"That's okay. Let me get a pen and sit down. I'll do the autographs."

"Won't it be a violation of your contract? I don't want you to get in trouble with your record company."

"I won't. This wasn't planned. It just happened."

"I don't know how to thank you. I'd better get one of the bouncers to stand guard over you."

"That's okay, Tony. I'm a Special Agent with the FBI. I can handle the crowd"

"Yep." A crowd of autograph seekers started to form around Kyle. "Would you mind if I take control of this situation?"

"Not at all. Please do."

"Everybody, listen to me!" Jay's powerful voice boomed over the noise of the crowd as he flashed his ID and badge to the gathering crowd. "Kyle will be happy to sign autographs, but he can only write with one hand, so one at a time please. Everyone who wants an autograph will get one. But we need to do it in an orderly fashion so no one gets hurt."

Several hours later, they arrived back at their hotel. "Jay, you're the best. I don't deserve you."

"Why do you say that?"

"We're here on our honeymoon, and I end up spending most of the evening signing autographs. Not once did you complain."

"There's only one thing I have to complain about."

"What's that?"

"You embarrassed me."

"How? Bitch, you made me cry with that song!"

"Yeah right, sure you are!"

"I am."

"Prove it."

"Like this." Jay sat down on the bed next to Kyle and kissed him deeply, which led, of course, to lovemaking.
