Beginning around the mid-twentieth century the various nations of Earth had experienced tremendous technological growth. It was during this time that advances had been made in several key industries including Information Systems, both Theoretical and Physical sciences, Aerospace, Robotics, Weaponry, and Medicine in addition to several other industries. This caused the world economy to grow at a remarkable pace.
Politically, the various nations of the Earth maintained their sovereignty and independence from one another. There wasn't an air of hostility between most countries, but they weren't particularly open with one another when it came to sharing the technological advances each country had made.
This began to change in the second decade of the twenty-first century. The changes weren't in areas of sharing their advances. The changes came in the form of veiled animosity among nations. Spying on each other in an effort to 'steal' technology from the other nations became rather commonplace.
Tensions began to grow and by the middle of the twenty-first century, open hostility between nations was more and more commonplace. Various factions became aggressive.
Beginning about the year 2055, political analysts began to foresee a real danger that a world-wide conflict was likely. This was evident in the seemingly regular small wars that broke out between neighboring countries.
More moderate governments began to cooperate; not to share technology, but to attempt to avoid a catastrophic global conflict. These governments seemed to be making real progress until the beginning of 2061. Talks broke down as tensions began to increase. The potential for a cataclysm increased at an alarming rate.
At the beginning of July 2061, most analysts expected this conflict to begin at any time. On July 10th, one of the smaller, more militant countries attacked, for the first time, with a weapon that was other than conventional. The damage caused by this one attack killed nearly 500 million people.
Five nations from around the world banded together to attempt to stave off a larger conflict. On July 17th, these five nations mounted an offensive on the more militant nations. This had less than a totally successful conclusion.
On July 19th, these five nations made a public announcement that certain governments had plans to unleash the deadliest weapons in their arsenals on the rest of the world. This caused governments around the globe to band together and on the 20th of July 2061, a major offensive was mounted and toppled the governments of these militant nations.
Individual countries would combine into these five regions with a single common government for each region. Those regions (or states) consisted of:
Over the next several weeks, the governments of the planet met and realized how close to the total destruction of the planet they had come. This opened up dialogue to create a new world government. This government would be a coalition consisting of five regions.
The Treaty of Vegas (formerly known as Las Vegas, Nevada, some still refer to it as such) was signed on the 24th of December 2061, uniting these regions to form a central one-world Government called the United States of Earth. The name was chosen as a means of honoring one of the nations that greatly helped in the formation of this government. A representative from each region would help form the government with one being elected as president every eight years.
Each region would have its own capital city and would maintain their own militia to maintain order within the region. In addition, the North American region would expand a program they'd been very successful at... Space Travel. The five regions agreed to have a single organization, represented by each of the regions. Space Fleet was officially founded in January of 2062. Over the next 25 years, Space Fleet built a fleet of ships. They colonized the planet Mars and sent out a few exploration vessels, trying to learn about the region of the galaxy where Earth was located.
In 2087, a scientist in what had previously been called Japan, was successful at building the first Faster than Light engine. This would allow for more far reaching exploration of space.
The World Capital: Since the treaty was signed in Vegas, it was unanimously decided to make that the government's capital city.
North America: Washington, D.C. was the capital of the United States of America, which was central of North America, so it was agreed by the regional representatives to continue using it for North America's capital city.
South America: In Cuiabá, next to the city council building, is a semicircular plaza built around a majestic white marble obelisk over 20 feet tall. A plaque next to the compass at the obelisk's foot calls the spot the exact "geodesic center of South America." For that reason, Cuiabá was chosen to be the capital city of South America.
Europe: Babruysk is located at the intersection of railroads to Asipovichy, Zhlobin, Kastrychnitski and roads to Minsk, Gomel, Mogilev, Kalinkavichy, Slutsk and Rahachow. It has the biggest timber mill in Belarus, and is also known for its chemical, machine building and metal-working industries. In 2000, Belarusian scientists Alexey Solomonov and Valery Anoshko published a report that stated the geographic centre of Europe was located near Lake Sho in Vitsebsk Voblast.
The scientists used a special computer program that takes Europe in a single entity - the White Sea and the Baltic Sea, Britain and Ireland were included in the program as continental zone objects. It is assumed that in the calculations to determine the center of Europe, one must take into account the inland waters of Europe and the Ural Mountains, the eastern border of Europe. Russian Scientists confirmed it as the center of Europe. Babruysk was chosen for Europe's capital City.
Asia/Pacific (encompasses Asia, the Pacific Islands and Australia): Chongqing is a sprawling municipality at the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing rivers in southwestern China. In the city center, the large, domed Great Hall of the People complex stands above pedestrianized People's Square. On the other side of the square, the Three Gorges Museum features artifacts from the construction of the Three Gorges Dam as well as ancient art. Chongqing is near the heart of this region and its capital city.
Africa: Last, but not least, is the African-Middle Eastern region. Khartoum was the capital and largest city of Sudan. It is located at the confluence of the White Nile, flowing north from Lake Victoria, and the Blue Nile, flowing west from Ethiopia.
Divided by the two Rivers Nile, Khartoum is a tripartite metropolis with an estimated overall population of over five million people, consisting of Khartoum proper, and linked by bridges to Khartoum North. With Khartoum being close to the heart of the region, and a popular city, it was chosen as the region's capital.
The flag was designed similar to the United States of America flag. As the American Flag had a star for each state of the nation, there are five stars to represent the five states of the planet. There are also five colors. The field of blue represents the vigilance, perseverance and justice of the state of North America. Red represents the hardiness and valor of South America. Purple, being regal, is used to honor the former monarchies in Europe. Gold represents the preciousness of the country of Asia. White is the cleansing of the state of Africa, where many of the militant nations were. Together, these colors represent the strengths of Humanity.
The thirteen stripes are reminiscent of the United States thirteen original colonies and how close the world came to having World War III. Some say that the World was thirteen days away from total annihilation of the planet.
Communism: In a communist society, the working class owns everything, and everyone works toward the same communal goal. There are no wealthy or poor people -- all are equal, and the community distributes what it produces based only on need. Nothing is obtained by working more than what is required. Communism frequently results in low production, mass poverty and limited advancement.
Socialism: Like communism, socialism’s main focus is on equality. But workers earn wages they can spend as they choose, while the government, not citizens, owns and operates the means for production. Workers receive what they need to produce and survive, but there’s no incentive to achieve more, leaving little motivation.
Capitalism: Owners are allowed to keep the excess production they earn. And competition occurs naturally, which fosters advancement. Capitalism tends to create a sharp divide between the wealthiest citizens and the poorest, however, with the wealthiest owning the majority of the nation's resources.
With exception of those countries which were part of the failed European Union, during the 20th century and much of the 21st, each country maintained their own currency and decided their own economy. Greed was commonplace in many of the nations. When the one world government was established, greed and poverty were two things the nations all agreed to diminish. Currency was done away with, opting for a "credit" system.
The new economy was neither communism, socialism nor capitalism. The leaders decided to look at what was best or worse about all three and do away with the worst parts. the new economy was somewhere between socialism and capitalism, yet neither.
Worldwide, everyone was given the same amount of credits based on their position and time of service. Take Space Fleet for example…
The base pay of an Ensign was slightly more than crewmen.
The base pay of a Lieutenant was slightly more than an Ensign,
But should an Ensign still be an Ensign after two years, he/she will make the same as a newly appointed Lieutenant.
